PP-RCT is a high-performance upgraded material in the field of polypropylene piping, full name Polypropylene Random Copolymer with enhanced Crystallinity Temperature, commonly referred to as high-temperature-resistant polypropylene pipe or fourth-generation PP-R pipe. It is not a completely new material, but a high-performance polypropylene pipe developed on the basis of traditional PP-R through molecular structure optimization, crystallization morphology control, and nanomodification technologies.

PP-RCT is now officially recognized as a distinct material class in multiple international standards. Under ASTM F2389-24a (the latest edition published in July 2024), PP-RCT is defined as “polypropylene random copolymer with modified crystallinity and temperature resistance”. Through twin-screw blending and granulation, special particles with high crystallinity and high melt strength are formed.

Precision Extrusion Molding

Single-screw extrusion is used with strict temperature control (≤230°C to prevent degradation); the key to success lies in ‘gradient slow cooling’ সাইজিং (60°C → 40°C → 25°C staged spraying), allowing the nucleating agents to fully act and uniformly refine spherulites, avoiding internal stress and microcracks caused by rapid cooling; laser online diameter and thickness measurement is conducted throughout.

The key to PP-RCT’s superior performance lies in its β‑nucleation technology (beta‑nucleation). While traditional PP-R is typically produced through α‑nucleation (alpha‑nucleation), PP-RCT uses β‑nucleating agents that induce a hexagonal crystalline structure (β‑crystal) instead of the monoclinic α‑crystal found in PP-R. This β‑crystalline modification results in significantly smaller and more uniform crystalline structures, which deliver superior physical, mechanical and chemical properties. On cooling, PP-RCT crystallizes at about 8°C higher temperatures than PP-R, indicating a drastically increased crystallization rate. The material also exhibits better thermal stability — thermogravimetric studies show that 1% mass loss of PP-RCT occurs at temperatures 8°C higher than neat PP-R.

Mandatory Quality Inspection and Certification

Must pass a 1000-hour static hydrostatic test at 95°C/10.0MPa and extrapolate life to 70°C/50 years according to ISO 9080; simultaneously test thermal stability (OIT ≥ 20 মিনিট) and drinking water hygiene safety; after passing, the pipe body is mandatorily marked with PP-RCT, চাপ রেটিং, and the applicable standard.

  • Extremely cold but not brittle: fine crystalline structure, homogeneous heat fusion, high system integrity under freeze-thaw cycles;

The standard includes four Quality Assurance (QA) appendices with visual images of acceptable and unacceptable fusion joints.
