Heat resistance

HDPE pipes, made of high-density polyethylene, have relatively limited heat resistance but can still be used normally within a certain temperature range. Under normal circumstances, the temperature range of HDPE is typically between -40°C and +80°C, and with special formulations, some models can withstand higher temperatures. However, in high-temperature environments, the performance of HDPE material may decline, limiting its application in certain high-temperature conditions.

HDPE hot water pipes perform better in terms of heat resistance and can adapt to a certain temperature range, making them suitable for household hot water delivery. When transporting hot water, the heat loss is small, the water temperature can be maintained, the user experience can be improved, and it can work stably in both the cold northern region and the hot southern region. This feature increases the service life of the pipe and reduces maintenance costs due to temperature changes.

Problems that may occur at high temperatures

Material performance decline

HDPE pipes lose their mechanical strength in high-temperature environments beyond their tolerance and become more prone to deformation. It has relatively low mechanical strength in itself compared to traditional metal pipes, and high temperatures further undermine this property, making it unsuitable for withstanding excessive external pressure or loads.

Accelerated aging

HDPE material is sensitive to ultraviolet light, and high temperatures often come with strong light. Prolonged exposure to sunlight will accelerate the aging of the material and affect the service life of the pipe.

Connection issues

HDPE pipes are usually installed using electrofusion connection technology, and high temperatures may affect the connection area, reducing the firmness of the connection and increasing the risk of leakage. And when working in a high-temperature environment, higher requirements are placed on the connection operation, and if the operation is not done properly, it is more likely to cause a loose connection.

Countermeasures

Material selection

When using HDPE pipes in high-temperature environments, choose products that comply with national standards and have strong temperature adaptability. When purchasing, consider special formulations, models that can withstand higher temperatures, and ensure that their strength meets project requirements. For example, in the high-temperature application of HDPE steel-belt reinforced helical corrugated pipes, materials that can withstand high temperatures need to be selected.

Construction controls

Strictly follow the specifications during the construction process. For example, when connecting pipes, keep the joint area clean and ensure the firmness of the hot-melt connection. Set up a reasonable support frame to ensure the stability of the pipe at high temperatures and prevent deformation due to high temperatures. After the construction is completed, strict quality checks should be carried out, such as using an ultrasonic detector to check the sealing of the welded joints and conducting pressure tests on the pipes
