Description
Product Overview
The Angle Type Globe Valve is a specialized industrial valve designed for applications where 90° flow direction change is required and where standard straight-pattern globe valves may cause fluid retention, coking, or blockage. The angle pattern design makes this valve the preferred solution for high-viscosity media, slurries, and fluids containing solid particles.
Unlike standard globe valves that feature a straight-through body, the angle globe valve incorporates a 90° turn in the flow path. This geometry not only serves as a piping elbow but also provides excellent draining characteristics—when installed at the low point of a pipeline system, it allows complete drainage of the line, preventing fluid stagnation and crystallization.
The valve body is available in carbon steel (WCB) and stainless steel (CF8/CF8M), with sealing faces hardfaced with hard alloy or CoCr alloy for extended service life. The J44 series complies with GB/T 12235 and API 623 standards and is widely used in petrochemical, power generation, and metallurgical applications where high-viscosity or fouling media are handled.
Working Principle
- The angle type globe valve operates on the same linear motion principle as standard globe valves. Turning the handwheel rotates the stem, which moves the disc perpendicularly toward or away from the stationary seat ring.
- When the disc approaches the seat → flow area decreases → flow is throttled
- When the disc moves away from the seat → flow area increases → flow is permitted
- The key distinction of the angle pattern is the 90° flow path—fluid enters the bottom port, flows horizontally across the seat, and exits through the side port (or vice versa). This configuration provides three significant advantages:
- Self-Draining: When installed vertically with the inlet at the bottom, the valve completely drains when closed, preventing fluid accumulation and freezing
- Reduced Erosion: The angle design directs the media impact away from the sealing surfaces, reducing seat erosion
- Space Efficiency: Eliminates the need for a separate elbow fitting, simplifying the piping layout
- The angle pattern reduces flow resistance compared to standard globe valves while maintaining the excellent throttling capability characteristic of all globe valves.

Key Features
- 1. Angle Pattern Design
The 90° flow path eliminates the need for a separate elbow fitting, simplifying piping layout and reducing installation costs. The angle design prevents fluid retention and avoids coking and crystallization issues common in straight-pattern valves. - 2. Self-Draining Capability
When installed vertically with the inlet at the bottom, the valve completely drains when closed—ideal for low-point drain applications and preventing freezing damage in cold climates. - 3. Excellent Throttling Performance
As a globe valve, the J44 series offers precision flow regulation with excellent throttling capability. The disc movement allows fine control over flow rate across the full range of operation. - 4. Long Service Life
The sealing faces are hardfaced with hard alloy or CoCr alloy (Stellite) and precision ground, providing superior wear and erosion resistance for extended reliability. - 5. Wide Material Selection
Valve bodies are available in carbon steel and stainless steel with multiple sealing material options (hard alloy, alloy steel, body material, PTFE) to suit various media and temperature requirements. - 6. Robust Construction
The valve features a sturdy, heavy-duty body designed to withstand thermal shocks and pressure fluctuations in demanding industrial services. - 7. Versatile Installation
The angle pattern can be installed in both vertical and horizontal pipelines, offering flexibility in piping system design. - 8. Easy Maintenance
The top-entry bonnet design allows in-line maintenance—all internal trim components can be accessed and serviced without removing the valve from the pipeline.

Angle Type Globe Valve
FAQ
Q1: What is the advantage of an angle type globe valve over a straight globe valve?
The angle type globe valve offers three key advantages for specific applications: (1) Self-draining—when installed vertically with inlet at bottom, it completely drains when closed, preventing fluid retention, crystallization, and freezing; (2) Reduced erosion—the angle design directs media impact away from sealing surfaces; (3) Space-saving—eliminates the need for a separate elbow fitting. The angle pattern is particularly recommended for high-viscosity, crystallizing, and slurry services.
Q2: What is the maximum temperature this valve can handle?
The maximum temperature depends on the valve body and sealing materials selected. Carbon steel WCB with hard alloy facing can handle up to 350°C (metal-seated). Stainless steel with graphite packing can handle up to 450°C. For PTFE-seated options, the maximum temperature is 150°C. Please specify your temperature requirements when ordering.
Q3: Can this valve be installed in a horizontal pipeline?
Yes, the angle type globe valve can be installed in both vertical and horizontal pipelines. However, to take full advantage of the self-draining feature, vertical installation with the inlet at the bottom is recommended for applications requiring complete drainage.
Q4: What materials are available for the valve body and sealing?
The J44 series is available with valve bodies in carbon steel (WCB) and stainless steel (CF8/CF8M/CF3/CF3M) . Sealing materials include hard alloy (for high temperature and wear service), CoCr alloy/Stellite (for superior erosion resistance), body material (direct metal-to-metal seal), and PTFE (for corrosive service and soft seal requirements).
Q5: What standards does the J44 series comply with?
The J44 series complies with GB/T 12235 (Chinese national standard for globe valves), API 623 (international standard), GB/T 12221 (face-to-face dimensions), GB/T 9113 (flange dimensions), and API 598 (inspection and testing). This ensures compatibility with major international piping systems.
