Working Principle
The alarm check valve operates on a simple yet reliable pressure differential principle:
1. Standby State (System Pressurized): The system side of the valve is filled with pressurized water. The clapper remains closed due to its own weight and the pressure balance between the supply side and system side.
2. Fire Event (Sprinkler Activation): When a fire occurs and the sprinkler head opens, water pressure on the system side drops. The pressure differential opens the clapper, allowing water to flow from the supply side into the system piping.
3. Alarm Activation: Simultaneously, water enters the alarm port through a small orifice, flowing to the water motor gong (audible alarm) and pressure switch (electrical signal to the fire control panel). The bypass check valve prevents false alarms from pressure surges.

UL/FM Fire Alarm Check Valve
FAQ
Q1: What is the difference between an alarm check valve and a standard check valve?
A: An alarm check valve is a specialized type of check valve; in addition to preventing backflow (like a standard check valve), it triggers an audible and visual alarm when water flows through the system. Standard check valves only prevent backflow and lack alarm functionality. Alarm check valves are primarily used in fire protection systems that require flow monitoring and alarm notification capabilities.
Q2: Which certification standards does this valve meet?
A: This valve holds UL Listing (UL 312), FM Approval (FM 1630), and CE certification, meeting the strictest international safety and quality standards for fire protection equipment. These certifications ensure the product can be used in compliance with regulations for fire protection projects worldwide.
Q3: What is the function of the bypass check valve?
A: The bypass check valve allows for slow, minor, and transient increases in supply pressure to pass through, thereby preventing false alarms caused by pressure fluctuations. It ensures that the alarm is triggered only when sprinkler heads actually activate and a sustained water flow occurs.
